Special Well of Lost Plots Edition

Welcome to Whatever Next

It's here! It's here! (Well, at least in the UK!) The Well of Lost Plots has hit the shelves of your favorite bookstores all over the UK. And Australia and Canada will be seeing it in August and October, respectively. The Poor Americans are going to have to wait until February of 2004 to buy it there. But, many Americans are just too impatient and have ordered our copies from overseas. Who wants to wait until February for WOLP!?

The Well of Lost Plots Hits the Best Sellers Lists!

According to Jasper's site, WOLP made the lists at Number 10 for the week ending 12th July 2003! It was also ranked at Number 8 on Amazon UK on July 11th and is also 'Book of The Week' in The Scotsman and Time Out. YAY! Congrats to Jasper and Thursday!

Jasper Makes Surprise Visit at Fforumite After-Signing Dinner

After the book signing event in Leeds on Wednesday, July 16th, many of the UK-based Fforumites attended a dinner planned at Dino’s by Rob J. And much to the attendees' surprise, Jasper and Mari stopped by for a casual chat and a drink. Thanks to our wonderful railway system, your Editor didn’t make it. This does not please him. As a result, full story and pics will be held over to the next issue of WN.

WOLP Launch Party

A party to announce the release of The Well of Lost Plots was held June 30th at the King's Head Theatre in London, jointly sponsored by Hodder & Stoughton and Foyle's Bookshop. Fforde Fforum stalwarts, 'Carla' and 'Aunty Sassy', attended and sat in the front row. Several more Fforde Ffans joined them and some of them have now also joined the Fforum, including 'splat21' and 'TheMedHettar'. In fact, 'TheMedHettar'-aka Mitch W.- has submitted a report of the evening's festivities: Ffun with Foyle's and Jasper Fforde at the launch of The Well of lost Plots

Nextian Chat Rooms Announced

With the Fforum growing in leaps and bounds, the number of posts is getting out of hand! (Not to mention, filling up poor Jasper's inbox!) And since most of it seems to be quick banter back and forth, it only made sense that we should have our very own chat rooms. So now, Jasper's ffans have two options for live chat.

The Ffan Club has set up a Java-based chat that can be accessed through our site. No special download needed. We'll be planning chat parties, but the room will be available at all times if you want to stop by and see who's around. Our first scheduled chat event will be on Thursday, July 31st at 8:00pm - London time. There's also a world clock so you can compare your local time so you don't miss it. Come on by, check it out!

The kind and industrious Fforumite, Milo, has also set up his own live IRC Chat room for Nextians. To join in, simply download the IRC software from www.mirc.com and install it. Then log into DALnet (it will be one of the server options). Once you've logged into DALnet, you can find the room labeled #ThursdayNext. Milo reports he will be available most nights around 10pm GST.
